The Hieronimusing Table Manners

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Table manners have a history, like so many other things we practice today. The first record of a set of table manners comes from the Old Kingdom of Egypt from a book entitled The Instruction of Ptahhotep written around 2500 b.c. Known as the Prisse Papyrus discovered by an archeoligst by that name, the record predates the Bible by about 2,000 years. Scholars believe it was advice written for young men climbing the social ladder. “Laugh when he laughs” and “say nothing about their failing philosophy , so that thou shalt be very agreeable to his heart.” Simply put, kiss up to the boss. It is believed that many directives about manners found in proverbs and Ecclesiates reflect these ancient instructions, particuarily applying to preparation and consumption of food.

Soft terror

Which of us today is not more aware of the frailty of our lives? Who among us is not in some way grieving for the security of what we had in sensibility alone, but which no longer exists? Who asks of themselves each day, in what ways did I contribute to a better world today? Sept. 11,2001 did change us all, together. For those who have fought geopolitical interventionism worldwide, struggled for right human relations, terrorists are the likely fruit of war rackateering. When nation’s drop bombs, they can be called humanitarian aid. When terrorists bomb buildings, it is called an act of evil. The issue is not the fact that both are violent ways of being in the world and using technology, the issue is how do we go about defining the rules and laws pertaining to violent aggression by anyone?

Making Space Happen: Private Space Ventures and The Visionaries Behind Them

NASA does not have a monopoly on our space travel options. In fact, in America alone hundreds of individuals and private organizations are working toward the goals of sending ordinary people into space, both as tourists and permanent colonists. One of our recent guests on Future Talk with Zohara Hieronimus, Paula Berinstein, has conducted a series of fascinating interviews with many of these passionate engineers and entrepreneurs who are behind the private space movement. She joined us earlier this year to review her book, Making Space Happen: Private Space Ventures and the Visionaries Behind Them (Plexus, 2002), and the many challenges and ramifications of mass space travel. Reading this book is thrilling to gauge where our future is already today, and to be introduced to the leaders who are already pondering the questions about ethics, ownership, legislation, and even what kind of humans we will be as we venture forth off planet.

Berinstein recalls her surprise when she first discovered that private companies and advocacy organizations were working on getting humans into space, while attending a conference in 1998. “I was flabbergasted,” she recalls. “I had not known about this until I went to a conference given by the Space Frontier Foundation, which is an activist organization that is working to get humans into space. But up to that point I just thought that NASA and the European Space Agency and the Russian Space Agency were it as far as space was concerned. And I thought, if they’re not doing anything to get ordinary humans into space, then I’m not going to get to go, and neither is anybody who is not an astronaut or a mission specialist. So I got very, very excited when I found out about all the goings on, and there are many of them.”

Love

Our world is where we live. It is ours to care for, ours to nurture, ours to protect and delight in. Each of us has a different challenge in life and all of us have gifts to share, cultivated by hard work and sacrifice, resulting in blessings and joy. Many people are talented writers, with the gift of writing songs and poems, or the gift of prayer or telling stories. Future Talk invites you to share your prayers, your poems, your thoughts and stories with others. By sharing our hopes, our dreams, our fears, our laughter, our prayers, our love, we come closer to each other. By sharing, we learn to hear. We learn that we are more alike, than dissimilar, more full of hope and love than despair and dislikes. Let us all take up the mantle of freedom, freedom of the heart to sing the praise of life, freedom of the soul to hope for peace on earth, freedom as sovereign humans to use our free will for the good of all.
“It’s time to be radically loving.”

Love is the Healing Ray

For a decade and two administrations, the Bush and Clinton, I covered geopolitics as a radio and TV show commentator and talk show host. During much of that time we examined issues of international imperialism, be it NATO’s illegal aggression against Yugoslavia or our devastating drug war expansion into Columbia. During all these years, my primary concern as a State citizen was and remains the creation of a wise national defense strategy. This includes our realization that international interference in other nation’s economic and political destinies has great repercussions for our people, now and in the future.

We are guided if faithful, to our supreme law, the Constitution of the United States, and to act by the principal of right action under the law. Thus, taking measures to secure the Nation’s borders, air space, and intelligence information is the most obvious of measures our nation has been less than vigorous in addressing, obligations seriously undermined during the eight years of the Clinton Administration. It is time for we the people of America to insist, that our Federal government’s on going engagement in insurrections, in civil wars, in growing war economies packaged as humanitarian aid, must be rethought and examined; each case a unique situation constellating dynamic histories.

Notes on Prayer

Notes on Prayer written 8/20-25/2001

The following writings on the subject of prayer, are actually taken from my daily notebook. These are working notes. I thought though, as working notes about my own exploration of prayer, that they might stimulate your special way of appreciating the power of prayer. As a collection of notes, they were written without consideration for a reader. But in rereading them now a number of times, as observations, they invite every reader to reflect for a moment on our divine capacity to help shape the world of tomorrow, by our loving feelings and thoughts of this day. It is my hope, that all of us can learn to hold each other in our hearts as loving, divine humans. That when we quiet ourselves for a moment each day, we can add our good will to the unfolding beauty of humanity’s awakening, for the good of the world and the planet. When for even a moment, we embrace the earth and each other in love, we are co-creating the world’s future peace and right order now. We as a community become one, in our joining to nurture the world with love. In prayer, we are one. In life we are one. Let’s declare it, together.

An Ancient Software Program- The I Ching

The Chinese Code of 10,000 or 64

The Chinese book of Change or I Ching, escaped the savage book burning crusade in 213 B.C., under the dictates of tyrant Ch’in Shih Huang Ti , and fortunate for the world, for in it we find the common roots of the dominant Chinese philosophies of Taoism and Confucianism. From the late 3rdcentury, until almost the ending of 220 AD, formal esoteric schools were devoted to the study of the I Ching, but it was only when the scholar Wang Pi (226—249 A.D..D.) wrote his commentaries, that it finally blossomed, unencumbered in society, by suspicion that it was only an oracle and thus unreliable. It was elevated from a contested book of divination by then at odds with the more politically connected thought of Yin/Yang ( the school of absolute dualism) and the magic schools it generated, to being appreciated as a Chinese classic of great wisdom.

Wolfing Through Space

There is within the physics community a wonderful group of functional mystics, meaning the laws they have discovered or modeled, are in complete agreement with the ancient spiritual teachings of many traditions, be they Cabalists, Buddhists, Gnostic, Christian Mystics, and other ancient traditions as well. Expressing itself fundamentally in the law of similars, the general rule is that all things are related through octaves of similars. Much like a piano key board, one might have eight different variations of a note, each being higher or lower than another. Our thoughts are like these musical notes when put into a musical arrangement. They have beat, they have frequency, they have a shape and sound to them. Some have called these, thought forms. Clairvoyants can describe them, their color, their clarity or fuzziness. What we think say and do literally affects the shape of the material world. All things are vibrations, you, me and our computers. All interact. We are in an ever seething matrix of energies interconnected, all of the time. None of us can stop the world and get off, even when our bodies die. Because as units of light-energy we are immortal, recycling through the process of manifestations and immateriality.

There are very few scientists in the world qualified to do what Bill Tiller is doing. After 30 years at the Department of Materials Science at Stanford University, and its former Department Chair, he is devoting his time to the development of reliable instrumentation for the detection and study of “subtle energy” fields in nature.

Fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Science William A. Tiller, Ph.D. is an expert on the structure of matter and has been consultant to government and industry in the fields of metallurgy and solid state physics. His fields of specialization are crystal growth, surfaces and interfaces, physical metallurgy, semiconductor processing, thin film formation and computer simulation. He has published more than 250 scientific papers, three technical books and has five patents issued.

Sacred Times

In more ancient times, the monastic traditions of the world protected the seeker from the despotic tide of mundane affairs, unless in the process of their working, the Orders discovered secret powers or ancient teachings that had been hidden, at which time they were most often subject to cruel and horrendously barbaric purges. Whether it was the treasure of the Cathars, the Templars or the Poet Troubadours, each were subject to a Church sponsored slaughter. While most moderners ignore the meaning and import of these events, are we any less prone today, towards limiting those individuals who are way showers to the sacred trusts. Are we less or more prone today to accepting their wise guidance?

Love of Nation As Sacred Service

Monday, December 5th, 2005

(Hieronimusing originally posted 7/2/01)

Nations Have Destinies

Love of nation is not archaic, in fact our times demand it. For nations like humans have destinies, though ours is being abandoned, and other nation’s destinies ransacked. America is a Constitutional Republic, while we do not yet embody the principles that configure our design, nor do we any longer adhere to the process of representative government as intended, it remains our task to restore the nation’s purpose, as a sacred one, a hermetic undertaking in freedom.

The Nation is not a utility, but a collective of souls’ unfoldments, a nation created through the self governed, rather than the governed over. The many unfolding the one. Like coherent light, nation can integrate the various peoples under a common law, into an ethical and potentially virtuous society; if adhered to. This is a spiritual reality, not just a philosophy. To manifest our highest purpose as a communion between the self-governed, requires that all personal and government action be evaluated in the context from which our authority flows, both human and divine, set against the constitution, the supreme law of our land. It is the Nation’s sacred system by which freedom is supported and evolution of the city-state secured, to that of realized Nation, holy citizen in sacred city, conscious of their destiny, Shamballa on earth.

Liberty, The Beloved

(originally posted Aug. 5 & Oct.30 1998)

Her path like her embodiment was both a mystery and a revelation. One could feel her at a distance. One cleaved to her pace and power of walk, as by necessity. There were many who strove to unite with her, many who gave up their lives doing so. Millions has she been betrothed to, as many forsaken by. Call her queen, call her empress, call her goddess or by her common name, call her Liberty.

Sweetness one can describe only after having been touched by her. Austerity only one who has sacrificed for her can declare known. Find the way to her, come man and come woman, come child and come animal, come all natural creations. Tarry not though for she journeys.

Moderners often make the mistake of looking at world mythologies as imaginary tales, or at the very best, interpretive storytelling. Yet over and over we are shown, that in fact, the world’s mythologies and often allegories, are both accounts of ancient events, and actual phenomena. Examining archetypes as they appear in various cultures, teaches that there are recurring ancient themes. Among them is the lost civilization, the sunken city of the sun, and lost continent from a golden age.

Plato’s Timaeus and Critias ( 380 B.C..) contain the best written historical account of Atlantis, the City of the Sun told to him, history tells us by Critias, who had been told the account by the Greek statesman Solon, who was instructed by an Egyptian.

The Spindrift Institute

William Sweet talks about prayer, the same way a farmer talks about good weather, with a familiarity , with an intimacy, and an acknowledgement that the laws of nature impact our earth. But Sweet’s interests and occupation as former Director of the Spindrift Institute under the direction of its founders, father and son team, Bruce and John Klingbeil, made a study of prayer. As Christian scientists the Klingbeils were interested in the actual science of prayer that seemed so effective in their lives and the lives of millions across time.
